Dade Medical College Student Wins Nurse of the Year Award

November 26, 2013

MIAMI — On Friday, November 22, 2013, 184 finalists competed in 15 categories for the title of Nurse of the Year in the annual March of Dimes awards program. Several Dade Medical College and USmF students and staff were amongst the finalists but DMC student Shaquan Chambliss-Huggins was selected as the Nurse of the Year in the undergraduate student category.
This special program honors the contributions of nurses who have distinguished themselves as extraordinary in the nursing profession. Excellent student nurses are also honored for their commitment to gaining the knowledge it takes to not only play a critical role in advancing the mission as health care providers but also to excel in their oftentimes demanding schoolwork and clinical internships.
“We really could not have been happier to have FIVE finalists in the program,” said Giselle Schueurmann, the college’s Corporate Director of Nursing. “Our commitment to education and to our students is second to none and to have one of our very own students win in this category makes us very proud.”
